When exactly did Neil Patrick Harris become a national treasure?

I didn't watch Doogie Howser. I've not been watching How I Met Your Mother, much. I haven't even - heaven forfend! - seen Starship Troopers. I have seen the first Harold & Kumar movie, though not the second. And yet I am aware that Neil Patrick Harris is one of the great gifts our country has bestowed upon the world. How has this happened? Of course the apotheosis of his delicious special-ness to date is on display here. But in watching this for the first time - I have now watched it so many more times than once it's rather ridiculous - the notion of his delectable wondertude was already implanted in my mind.

You know what I think it was? I think it was the way he came out.

"I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man...."

This was, what, two years ago now? And it still makes me smile, the though of how happy Neil is to dispel any rumors that he might be heterosexual. I love this guy.

Next up, Jason Bateman as awesomest sexiest man ever.

I'm reading your Julie and Julia book - its really good. I am fixated with getting a hardcover version of mastering the art of french cooking, even though I have 2 soft cover versions. Until about 5 mins ago I thought that the book was fiction. So you actually did this? And you have a husband called Eric? I haven't quite figured out what is fact and what is fiction. Your book is brill though, thoroughly enjoying it and recommending it to everyone I have contact with.

Well done! Joanne, 31 years old, South Africa - Chef in Training (in real life)

I watch Doogie Howser (then and now) as well as How I Met Your Mother. I too love how he came out, but am also a little uncertain of how/when he became synonymous with "godly".

It's not working. From the fan site:
“You all are watching! That is good! But now we’re having technical difficulties. Working on THAT now. Keep refreshing, we’ll get there. Stay tuned. Thank you! Maurissa, Jed, Zack, and the Joss”

OK, my first blog EVER (to quote Julie) though it took me three tries to get the whole account/name thing straight. I loved the Neil Patrick Harris spot, love him and now love How I Met Your Mother. My husband kept trying to get me away from my books to watch with him (I teach at a University and am earning my MS), so he bought Season 1&2 DVD's for Christmas while I was on break - I highly recommend them - great fun.

Just finished Julie's book yesterday and was so sad to see it end I looked up this blog. Now it doesn't have to... Can't wait for the next one!

I also adore Neil PH. He is wonderful! Did you possibly catch him co-announcing the Emmy's this morning on tv? It was so delightful, he just makes me smile.

I'd like to have him to dinner, wouldn't you?

This has absolutely nothing to do with Neil Patrick Harris I just have a question for you and have no idea where to post a question.
We read Julie and Julia for our book club. yeah. Now I want to cook something from Julia for the meeting. Can you suggest a good crepe, I didn't want to take any old crepe recipe. I found the recipe for the crepe itself but don't know what to fill it with. I was thinking about something sweet and something savory. thanks sorry if this is inappropriate blog posting.

Hi, redhead. I didn't know how to get back to you, but crepe fillings, hm..... Depends on how you want to work. Julia would have you have you make a creamy cheese sauce with mushrooms or chicken livers or some such (some recipes are on pp. 201-203 of MtAoFC I), which is good but not without effort. As far as sweet - honestly? The one time I went to Paris I practically lived on crepes stuffed with Nutella. Not the classiest thing in the world, I'll warrant, but yummy? Yes.

Julie- I LOVED your book. Now I can't wait for the movie! Please do not judge Neil Patrick Harris by Starship Troopers! Try and watch/DVR HIMYM. He is fantastic on it. Even my Husband who is very anti sitcom's (avid 24 viewer) enjoys him on the show.

Since I fell kindred to you on the Joss Whedon front (amongst others I've not yet mentioned) I must implore you to please Netflix "How I Met Your Mother" aka HIMYM if you haven't already. You will soon get why NPH is a National treasure.
