I SWEAR TO GOD I'M GOING TO BE BETTER!

Okay, so we're in the home stretch to the J&J: The Movie! release. (August 7th.  Tell your friends.)  And I'm going to be here more often, I swear.  If I don't respond to all comments, it's simply because I'm going slightly insane at the moment, but I much appreciate them - even those from people who think I shouldn't take potshots at Republicans....

Now, this is a bit old news, but a couple of weeks ago I was awarded an honorary degree from the Cordon Bleu School in Paris.  This is of course patently absurd, since I in no way can cook like a Cordon Bleu graduate, but I was truly honored, and had a fantastic, if slightly manic visit in Paris.  You can see a few pictures here.

I was also last week at a "blogger event" last week in LA, at which I had a ton of fun and met some fabulous bloggers.  Another coming up tomorrow here in New York, perhaps this time I'll even get pictures.

Off to do the audiobook recording for the next book.  Yar.

So you're now famous enough to warrant an ugly and unnecessary article on Page Six of the Post. (Of course, that describes about 90% of the articles on Page Six.) Any thoughts?

Are you narrating the next recording yourself? I've already preordered my book, but would love to hear the story told by you in your own voice.

My sister, stepmom and I are counting down the days until J&J opens!

Um, I just realized my earlier comment may have sounded hateful towards you, and that is definitely NOT how it was intended. When I read the article, I was absolutely appalled for you, and am fully prepared to open up a can of whupass on Richard Johnson should you so desire it.

I saw the movie last night at a preview screening and, as an amateur blogger myself (on film), I found your story extremely inspiring. I have not read your book (and to be honest I did not know anything about your story), but I was literally laughing at loud at how similar my own experience has been blogging (well, at least all of the pre-book deal stuff...). I don't know if you actually said some of those lines in real life, but anybody who's ever blogged will get a kick out of it.

Congratulations on your hard-earned success, made so much more admirable because you initially just set out following one of your passions like everyone else.

I'll be sure to share these thoughts about passionate blogging when I write about the film prior to its release. You'll motivate a lot of people with this story - thanks for the kick in the pants!

Hello!
I just picked up your book, Julie and Julia at borders a week ago for a summer read and just love it. it's not my typical sort of book at all. However I, 22, just moved in with my fiance' and am learning to cook for the first time. I baked chicken for the first time all by myself and was almost hysterical with pride {that it was edible}.
Congrats on the honorary degree for Paris!! If only I could receive an honorary Oscar for acting out a monologue every day for a year on my blog about acting....

Anyway, glad you love the internet as much as me and I hope you continue to make great books! maybe even a cook book for the creative yet inexperienced? :) (I like those baked eggs)

Hey there, this is actually my 1st time on your blog. I just saw your movie last night at an early screening down here in Birmingham, Al. I'll admit my wife made me go as she's a pastry chef & cook and loved Julia Child as well. I'll also admit I loved the movie. Very entertaining...I haven't laughted that much at a movie in a long time. I will now have to buy the book to read it for myself. Good luck with the new book!

Saw the movie last night at an early screening. Truthfully only wanted to see it because I <3 Meryl Streep (the women does no wrong!). I really didn't know what to expect and never heard of your project before yesterday. Just to let you know - loved the movie and more importantly your idea!! [didn't love Stanley Tucci's part in the movie though but I digress] I stumbled upon this site from Google but am having a hard time finding original blog - where can I find the original blog? Would love to read it.

I just finished your book last night and Googled The Julie/Julia Project on my lunch break--it's still up! It made my day.

I love that you are a blogger turned author, and I really enjoyed your book. Just so you know, I finished it in two marathon bathtub soak sessions. :) For me, that's a really good read! I'll be passing it on to my friends.

Congratulations on all your success! I know this disgruntled secretary can't wait to read your next book.

Hi Julie,

Have not seen the movie but I am in the process of reading your book. The book is great and I'm sure the movie with Meryl Streep must be excellent. I have a fan of Julia Child for a long time and yes, I have her cookbook.

Best laugh I had with Julia Child was when she appeared on a Martha Stewart episode on a holiday special. The ladies (Martha and Julia) did a fancy cream puff dessert which was suppose to be in the shape of a Christmas tree - Martha's tree was perfect - Julia drove Martha crazy because her tree was far from perfect.

Take care of yourself, congrats on your success.

So, I am reading your book. When I say reading, I should say devouring - one problem though, I am almost finished. Shit.
I have had a truly stressful week of gargantuan proportions and that book has managed to help me maintain some sanity (little though it may be.)
So to celebrate(?) I will open a bottle of Prosecco tomorrow, sit in the sun and finish your book. Tonight I am putting it off to check out what you are up to here on the web.
Thanks for sharing your experience, trashing republicans (yeah, that is without a capital R) and making me feel a bit less dramatic in my endeavors. Also, I will be watching the tour de France with friends tomorrow and cooking an overly rich dinner for everyone, inspired by you.
I love that the Cordon Bleu gave you a diploma - In your FACE food critics!

Your book is so farh-nee! Congrats on the Cordon Blue thing, though you say you can't cook as good as them, bu it takes guts to try out all Julia's recipes in 365! Look forward to your movie... Anyway, your book inspired me to hunt down Julia's MTAOFC vol 1&2 here in Malaysia. Sad to say I only managed to try out 10% of the recipees... :(

I'm not sure if you check your blog page anymore but felt compelled to post a comment. My husband and I were invited to attend a sneak preview of the movie Julie & Julia. Wonderful movie. I haven't laughed so hard and cried so hard in years. When my mom passed away, I've been walking around in a daze. Almost dead inside myself. I left the theater with such good feelings. I enjoy cooking and use to watch Julia's shows all the time on the local PBS station here in St. Louis. So here I am up early, which I am every morning during the week as my husband gets ready for work, Googled your name and blog site. I look forward in reading all your posts. Perhaps I will start my own blog ( not quite sure on which topic or passion yet ). I know once this movie is released everywhere, you will get tons of emails and even hits on your blog site. I hope this comment finds it's way to you. Thank you for inspiring me and helping my heart release emotio! n and laughter. Good luck with all your success

Julie - All the students at Le Cordon Bleu were happy to have you - Julia Child inspires most of us - I just lent some of my French Chef DVDs to a Brazilian classmate who wasn't familiar with her (shocking!). We barely make it through one recipe a day - and we have a professional kitchen, chefs and ingredients at our disposal.

Thanks for sharing your story -

Yes! I'm reading the book and continually offended by your Republican comments and THEN you throw another one in about a woman from MInnesota - me again!
Enjoy your writing, though - you should try "A Home Made Life" by Molly Weizenberg - great wit and no political or geographical comments.
I'll definitely finish the book and see the film - good luck!

Julie, your response proves that you're the tough cookie I knew you were. Just finished reading the Letter from the Editor in the August Bon Appetit (which is ALL about the movie and Julia!), and she said Mastering the Art of French Cooking is being re-released along with the release of the movie. If I were you, I'd have to get a bigger place to live because there wouldn't be enough room for me AND my ego. MANY congrats on all your accomplishments!!!

Julie,

Pre-viewed the movie too here in Tucson - haven't laughed that hard in a while.

The fiance really enjoyed it too. Congrats!

P.S. Was hoping they would show the maggots in the sink, and the hacking away at the bone for marrow. Ah well. Guess it's better not to make the audience gag.

Fab shoes in your Paris pics. Though absurd that you hold an honorary degree from Le Cordon Bleu it is really cool!! I have seen much more absurd honorary degrees to ridiculous recipients. So just stand with your arms open and accept the praise for a book well done, a year of your life slaving over a hot stove in a small apartment, a year of squeezing blogs into your evenings before you fall into bed, a year of limited sex with your beloved because you were too exhausted. You may deem it absurd but you earned it, so enjoy!

Okay - am so conflicted. Am reading your book - which I honestly have a love/hate relationship with. And I want my Mom to read it because she was a 30-something housewife who learned to cook with MTAofFC - first edition. JC was her Goddess. I even got JC to autograph her Way to Cook book for Mom. But, the language and the (hopelessly overdone) Republican potshots may be too much for my 81 yr. old mother. What to do...

Meanwhile, I am looking forward to the movie and am, in truth, enjoying the book the further I've gotten into it. So, congrats on it all!

Bon appetite!

Congrats on the honorary degree, and I have to agree with many posts, that you have inspired me to try some new things in cooking.

I just saw the movie tonight and the first thing I had to do was Google Julie Powell's blog :-)

What a great story and I'm glad you were able to share it. The only thing the movie didn't mention is did you ever get to meet Julia? I'm assuming not but still have to ask.

I swear you lived the life I am living now. I started as a non-name blogger a year ago and have become successful for no rational reason and have jobs of followers and have my own Red Carpet event to attend soon. Don't ya just love blogging? Never in a million years would someone think this could actually be a career.

What I want to know is did you ever make money from your first blog (thanks for telling the world about Salon.com - I never heard of it before and I'm sure they are happy they were in the movie) and why don't you have ads all over this blog so you can make money now?. Email me and I will help you figure out how to get your site making money. I'm glad to help a fellow blogger :-)

Good luck with all of your success and thanks once again for sharing your life and quite amazing story.
